NCU University Accreditation

Recognition of Your Degree from Northwestern Christian University, USA

The United States Constitution Protects the Rights of Northwestern Christian University in Providing Bible centered Education.

waving flag

NCU was founded in 1980 in the United States.

All NCU programs maintain the same standards of quality, including all independent NCU branches worldwide.

A Harvard University degree or a Northwestern Christian University degree may both be considered as earned degrees. The major difference is regional accreditation, prestige, and tuition expense. Few can afford Harvard’s tuition. Northwestern makes it possible for the financially challenged to earn a degree and advance their potential.

Be aware: In today’s educational world, regional accreditation is not always mandatory—especially for ministry-related, non-secular avocations/professions.

Many pastors, Christian teachers, Christian counselors, and others choose Bible colleges and seminaries with non-regional accreditation, resulting in significant financial savings while still providing quality education. In fact, most Bible schools are not regionally accredited.

At Northwestern, many students and graduates have come to us from major seminaries, colleges, and universities, including Liberty University and Fuller Seminary, for their postgraduate studies to earn their Master’s or Doctorate degrees. Many of our graduate students already hold regionally accredited degrees, but this is not always necessary for ministry-related positions.

Concerning Accreditation in the USA

Accreditation is big business today, fitting the definition of a monopoly. Only a few agencies are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and these impose astronomical fees and requirements that make it financially impossible for smaller institutions to comply.

This monopolistic system controls the market and excludes other accrediting organizations. The cost of accreditation can add up to millions of dollars, which is why private university tuition can reach $200,000 or more for a four-year degree. This leaves many students with massive student loans that take years to repay.

Non-traditional Christian universities, Bible colleges, and seminaries fill this gap, offering affordable alternatives.

Northwestern Christian University is such a school—providing quality, theologically accredited education for 99% less than private universities while offering:

  • A state-of-the-art online library
  • An online educational management system similar to those used by major institutions

Accreditation and Recognition of Credit

The value of accreditation is reflected in quality Bible centered educational programs at NCU

Many Christian universities and seminaries elect not to seek regional accreditation. By law and constitutional support free expression of religeon through education.

Northwestern Christian University is theologically certified. Transferability of credits depends on each institution’s policies.

Ministry and Education

Academic freedom and responsibility are cornerstones of non-secular religious education.

If concerned whether a church or employer will accept a degree from a theologically accountable school, simply ask. Even regionally accredited degrees can face restrictions depending on a denomination or employer.

Note: Some U.S. licensing authorities require regionally accredited degrees. Potential students should carefully consider their needs, since NCU programs are for ministry-related studies only and are not regionally accredited.

Government Recognition

  • United States: Strong constitutional rights, supported by the Supreme Court, provide support of religious-based education.
  • Numerous other States also make provision for religious schools regarding freedom of religious education.
  • “NCU was Founded in the U.S. and is continuing our mission worldwide through international online programs.”
  • Since 2010 Florida State Dept. of Education has authorized NCU as a degree granting institution through exemption, under Section 1005.06 (1) (f), FLA Statutes. NCU has applied for renewed annual exemption through legal affidavit and awaits the current approval.

Theological Accreditation / Educational Accountability

NCU is a member in good standing with IACEA.

IACEA is an international membership organization that:

  • Provides recognition of Christian educational accountability
  • Maintains high standards through evaluation and compliance
  • Upholds separation of church and state (Mark 12:17; James 4:4; II Corinthians 6:14)
  • Chooses not to seek endorsement from secular agencies such as CHEA, COPA, or USDE

More About Accreditation

In the U.S., accreditation is voluntary and handled by private, non-governmental agencies. The U.S. Department of Education does not accredit any institution.

Religious institutions are often exempt from federal or state accreditation requirements. To be accredited by government-influenced agencies could compromise church sovereignty and the principle of separation of church and state.
